We live on a hill, and I usually push my younger son in a stroller. The speed limiter on the balance bike is really great because it keeps my older son from riding off too far ahead.
Jana, CzechiaWe are completely satisfied with the balance bike. The speed limiter works exactly as it should. We use it most often on downhill rides. On flat terrain, we sometimes switch it off.
Michal, CzechiaOur grandson rides the balance bike. He is already riding with a higher speed setting now. Later, his younger sister will inherit it. I like that it is lightweight yet sturdy.

The SPLIM balance bike is designed for children between 80 and 105 cm tall who can already walk independently and confidently. This happens at different times for every child, but usually from around 1.5 years of age. Thanks to the speed limiter, SPLIM is ideal as a first balance bike for complete beginners. The child's inseam length should be at least 33 cm to comfortably reach the ground. Learn more in our article: Why use a balance bike and when to start?
The speed limiter does not slow the child down; it prevents the set speed from being exceeded.
Children who are just starting to ride a balance bike are not used to higher speeds. The limiter therefore does not bother them at all. The speed limiter actually helps them when riding downhill, because they can fully focus on movement and do not have to control their speed.
As the child learns to ride and brake and wants to go faster, the maximum speed can be gradually increased, or the limiter can be completely turned off in a safe environment.
The limiter rotates smoothly on ball bearings, so during normal riding it creates only minimal resistance. It starts braking only when the child reaches the set maximum speed.
Children under about four years of age usually cannot change the setting themselves. Older children may be able to adjust it. It is therefore always up to the parent to check the speed setting before riding.
With normal daily use, the balance bike will last for many years. The SPLIM balance bike has undergone demanding mechanical testing, including long-term wear tests of the speed limiter.
Once your child moves on to a bicycle, the balance bike will still retain good value and can easily be passed on or resold. More here: How we tested SPLIM
